The Marriage card game accommodates 2 to 5 players and utilizes three standard 52-card decks, totaling 156 cards. While there are no printed jokers, a number of wild cards, commonly referred to as "jokers," are created during each hand.

As with any Rummy variant, the objective is to form sets of equal cards and runs of consecutive cards of the same suit. In Marriage, all combinations consist solely of three cards.

The tiplu is randomly selected during each game. All cards matching the rank of the tiplu, as well as those immediately above or below it within the same suit, are deemed wild. The card directly above the tiplu is called the poplu, while the card directly below it is referred to as the jhiplu. For qualification purposes, the ace ranks just above the king and the two ranks above the ace. Collectively, the tiplu, poplu, and jhiplu are known as mal, whereas cards of matching rank in other suits are labeled as ordinary jokers.

Marriage Table Rules

The play may conclude in one of two ways:

• A player who has successfully laid down three combinations that are tunnelas or pure sequences can draw a card to form four additional valid three-card combinations. The player will then lay down these combinations, discard one remaining card, and end their turn.
• If a player draws and acquires eight dublees, they will lay those down, concluding the play. Eight dublees consist of 16 cards, meaning the player will have five unused cards plus a discard—these can be any cards.
